Astym®

Qore Physical Therapy is proud to provide Astym® treatment in American Fork, Utah, for our patients who require these important services. Astym is a type of physical therapy treatment where our physical therapists and team can help to regenerate a patient’s healthy soft tissues, such as tendons and muscles, to reduce or even eliminate scar tissue that is presenting pain or preventing proper movement. This effective treatment is quite useful for helping patients to restore their ability to move and for reducing pain associated with soft tissue dysfunction or injury.

Astym treatment works well because it addresses the underlying cause of most soft tissue problem, as opposed to merely attempting to relieve symptoms. Patients have seen impressive results when treated with Astym, even when dealing with the following diagnoses:

  • Achilles tendinosis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Chronic Achilles tendinitis
  • Chronic hamstring strain
  • Chronic lateral epicondylitis
  • Chronic patellar tendonitis
  • IT band syndrome
  • Joint contractures
  • Lateral epicondylosis
  • Overuse injuries
  • Pain or loss of motion and function after surgery, trauma or overuse injury
  • Patellar tendinosis
  • Plantar fasciopathy
  • Shin splints
  • Sprained wrist

We are pleased to report that Astym physical therapy treatment is noninvasive. No incisions or injections are required. To apply this treatment, our experienced physical therapists will apply instruments on top of the skin to identify unhealthy tissue. Then, we will gently apply mild to moderate pressure, as needed, to the problematic soft tissue area, which will stimulate the dysfunctional tissue, resorb scar tissue, and regenerate muscles and tendons.

At Qore Physical Therapy, we generally prescribe Astym treatment twice a week for about a month, totaling around nine sessions of treatment. And of course, this course of treatment is administered along with functional exercises and stretching. A refreshing and exciting aspect of Astym treatment is that patients are encouraged to remain active and keep working, even during treatment! Astym physical therapy increases the strength of your body tissues, enabling you to adapt to greater stress and demand without incurring injuries. Patients are usually quite pleased with the results of this treatment.
